Hi Guys,

Well i've finally got around to introducing you to Beano.

You may remember from my previous posts, that we lost our beloved old pal Ziggy at the grand old age of 16.5 in June 2008. We were never getting another dog again as our loss was too hard to cope with.

Well, the house was too empty, and after a couple of months along came our fist rescue Lulu (white deaf staff). Heartbreak followed after just the weekend with her, and she was diagnosed as having brain lesions and is now running free at Rainbow Bridge with Ziggy bear.

After a couple of weeks we started looking again for new pooch, and found two that we fell for and couldnt decide. (see my previous post "Can a terrified/nervous abused dog become a loving pet?? staffy behaviour)
On the 19th August we collected the chosen one!!!

Beano is 2 years old and had been with the rescue home for 3-4 months. He had been seriously abused by his previous owner and has a bit of wonky strut when he walks, a raspy noise from his chest when he plays and runs and his right ear has been cut off!!! He was nervouse as hell when we picked him and he was sick in the car when we got 5 minutes down the road.

We watch the dog whisperer all the time and took alot of notice to what cesar says about not giving affection to a dog that is not in a balanced state of mind. When we arrived back home with Beano, we took his lead off and left him to mooch about on his own. NO talk, no touch no eye contact!!! ( Thanks Cesar, you really are amazing!) He didnt move from his bed, which I have to say he found straight away!!

We sat in front of the tv, and we were chatting about how it was going to be a long process rehabilitating him and would take months.

WRONG!!!!

After a really really long time, NOT! Beano came in from the kitchen and came over to me on the sofa. He licked me, then he licked some more. The he proceeded to jump up my lamp and give me more loving!! He then moved over to my hubby and done the same to him too.

We havent looked back since. He has settled in fantastic. He was completely house trained after abhout 10 days. He only had a few accidents in that time, and it was just us needing to find his right feeding time to coincide with his poop times!! He now his routine which is breakfast between 6.30am & 7.30am depending what shifts hubby is working. The he has his first 15/20 minute walk between 7.30am & 8.30am. He then has his second walk about 5.45pm for roughly 40 minutes including ball play time!! The dinner is 7.30pm on the button and last walk before bed depending on when we go to bed.

We go back to the rescue centre almost every week with Beano so that we can walk him with other dogs and socialise him loads, and he loves it!! He has a girlfriend, Bella (black lab) who is my father in laws dog and they just love each other. He is fantastic with other dogs, no barking and loves to play, but is equally happy to just ignore them if they dont want to be friends. We habve taught him to high five with both paws and he even puts his own feet in his harness now when its walkies time. He sits at the curb and waits, although i know if he was out loose on his own he would have no road sense at all!! He travels fantastic in the car and has been down to London to visit my brother, about 130 miles as we live in Norfolk! He is best mates with my 2 nephews age 13 & 16 and they call him the bean machine and beano babe magnet!!

I am so lucky that Beano has turned into this fab boy, its just like he understands that this home is forever and that he is now finally safe!! He will never replace Ziggy, but he has filled a big gap that Ziggy left behind and we love him dearly.

Dont get me wrong he is not perfect, he hates cats!! Doesnt bark at them but would sure love to chase one and no doubt try the delicate delight!

RIP Ziggy bear and Lulu xxx Never forgotten.

Fantastic news. It's nice to have some happy moisture in my eyes.

Hi Congrats on the new dog, I love the name Beano !! Original :-)

And what a lovely story, I love hearing about rescue dogs making a good recovery from care, and finding they're feet again.

Well done xxx

That's a really nice story. Judging by the pic of him on his back on the sofa, it looks like he's definately settled in Loughing .
